McDowell Reluctantly Retires Cracked Ryder Cup Winning Driver.
Graeme McDowell has reluctantly retired his Ryder Cup winning driver after the back of his driver started to separate during the first round of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
McDowell knew there was something wrong with his trusty 18-month old Callaway FT-Tour driver on the first tee of the National Club course.
“I could tell with my first swing of the day on the first that the glue inside the driver had come loose,” he said after shooting a level par 72.

‘G Mac’ Sets Sights On Better Headlines In 2012
Graeme McDowell kick starts a new season determined to shake off the shackles of a frustrating 2011.
McDowell has spent the past five week’s splitting his time between 10 days at home with his family over the Christmas festive season and at his residence in Florida.
But a bigger celebration for the former U.S. Open champion would be ending a now 15-month victory drought.
“I am a tad rusty having four to five weeks off as I haven’t hit a huge amount of balls so I am looking forward to getting ...
Tiger Woods Lands Another Salvo On Former Coach, Hank Haney.
Tiger Woods has used his first formal press conference of 2012 to again slam former coach, Hank Haney.
Woods was quick to first express disappointment with Haney via the 14-time Major winner’s website – www.tigerwoods.com – after revelations in Haney’s book ‘ The Big Miss’.
Haney split with Woods in May 2010 and since August that same year has been working with Sean Foley.
And Haney’s remarks in print came just soon after the controversial remarks of former caddy, Steve ...
Faldo Course Tougher Than The Majilis At Dubai Golf Club.
Having previously played the Majilis course at the Emirates Golf Club it was a pleasure to finally tee up on the Faldo Course.
The course was opened in 1996 and in most visits to Dubai, and especially for the Dubai Desert Classic, it was closed to play.
However thanks very much to Viren Varma from Golf in Dubai and Adrian Flanagan, who doubles as Tournament Director for the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and Ladies Desert Masters, myself and Loic Mannoni from www.golf-zone.com played the course on Saturday.
Loic ...
Alvaro Quiros Plays Down Chance Of Historic Fourth Middle East Triumph
Spain’s big-hitting Alvaro Quiros has captured three of the four European Tour events in the Middle East but has played down his chances of adding this week’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship to his victory resume.
Quiros, who turned 28 last Saturday, is returning to competition after capturing last month’s 2011 season-ending Dubai World Championship.
It was the Spaniard’s sixth Tour success and his third in the Middle East after winning the Dubai Desert Classic earlier in 2011 and on top of success ...
Dramatic Launch For TaylorMade ‘RocketBallz’
If the explosive reaction on the Abu Dhabi practice range is an indication then TaylorMade’s new RocketBallz range of clubs are headed for outer space.
TaylorMade staff working the range, and venue for this week’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, looked to have been overwhelmed with the enormous interest in the range of 3-wood and drivers set to be officially launched next Monday.
Those European Tour players on the range Monday were showning real interest particularly in the RBZ Tour ...
Rory McIlroy ‘Stripped Clean’.
Has Rory McIlroy been stripped clean of sponsors?
That could appear to be the scenario after viewing a tweeter pic of the reigning U.S. Open champion taken recently in Dubai.
McIlroy was photographed wearing a shirt bearing just the Oakey name during a TPI 3D photo session in the UAE.
There had been suggestions last June by former ISM manager, Chubby Chandler and straight after McIlroy’s Congressional command performance that they were working on stripping McIlroy clean of a number of sponsor ...
