Patrick Reed enjoyed attending the now annual DP World India Championship ‘India dress’ theme gala dinner though this year’s double DP Tour winner was staring at a restless night wondering if he’s done enough to make the halfway cut in the $US 4m event in New Delhi.
Texas-based Reed recommenced his opening round on Friday in posting a three-over par 75 and then after a short break he was back out on the course in signing for a three-under 69 for a 36-hole level par tally.
When poor light halted play Reed was tied in 59th place on level par though trailing eight shots off the clubhouse lead held by Angel Hidalgo (68), Adrian Meronk (69) and Joost Luiten (68). Belgium’s Thomas Detry was also on 8 under having played just six holes of his second round.

As important for Reed were the positions of Eugenio Chacarra and Rory McIlroy – his big rivals for the Race to Dubai title – and both were doing well before the ‘end play’ siren sounded and they had to leave the course.
Chacarra followed up his opening 67 by making birdies at Nos. 1 and 3 and was 7 under overall, while McIlroy rolled in a 10-footer for eagle on No. 1 and was 2 under for his round after four holes, and 4 under for the week.
Reed has led the Race to Dubai money list race since capturing the back-t0-back Hero Dubai Desert Classic and the following week’s Bahrain Championship and even if he should lose the lead this week in far off India, the No. 1 title will again come down as it has done now for many yers to the final event of the year – the November 12-15 $10m DP World Tour Championship.
