Chacarra Dreams Now Of Joining Seve & Rahm As A Tour No. 1 Champion

Engenio Chacarra insisted “it would mean the world” to join fellow Spaniards Seve Ballesteros and Jon Rahm in ending his 2026 DP World Tour season as the Race To Dubai No. 1 champion.

Chacarra recorded a two-shot victory at the DP World India Championship to secure his third title of the 2026 season and soar to the top of the standings ahead of Patrick Reed in second and Rory McIlroy in third.

There is still three DPWT events but, after winning at Delhi Golf Club, Chacarra stressed how special it would be to put his name alongside Spanish golfing icons such as Ballesteros and Rahm.

He said: “It would mean the world.

“Those two guys are heroes for me as a Spanish golfer. Seve did everything for European and Spanish golf, and then Jon, it’s a guy that I’ve been looking up to since he went to college and professional golf.

“What he has accomplished, it’s amazing. Hopefully I can put my name on that trophy too. That’s one of the goals.

“I know it’s not going to be easy. Rory in Dubai always plays well and I know it’s going to be a big battle. Patrick too.

“Two of the best players in the world coming for me now, and I know they’re not going to make it easy.”

Seve captured the No. 1 title on six occasions from 1976 to 1978, 1986, 1988 and 1991 while Rahm was No. 1 at the end of the 2019 season.

He said: “Eugenio is playing well. He’s overtaken Patrick in the Race to Dubai. That makes my job a bit harder going into the last two events.”

McIlroy was speaking after a disappointing closing 74 that saw him share 42nd place in the championship and the six-time major champions poorest performance in his 19 OWGR counting events of season 2026.
