East Lake, Atlanta, GA …. FedEx Cup front-runner Dustin Johnson signalled his intentions in muscling his way to a share of the lead on day one of the season-ending Tour Championship here in Atlanta. DJ, who was out in the last group of the day, finished the opening round on top and sharing the lead after a four under par 66 with countryman Kevin Chappell and Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama. Matsuyama capped his round with a hat-rick of birdies early and finished with birdie on the par-5 18th ...

East Lake, Atlanta, GA … Rory McIlroy was clearly surprised to learn European vice-captain, Ian Poulter has purchased the ex-Chicago local police vehicle that helped get McIlroy to Medihah with minutes to spare ahead of his 2012 Ryder Cup Singles match. The unmarked squad car, a 2005 Ford Crown Victoria, was first auctioned off via E-Bay after reaching it’s ‘retirement’ mileage but somehow has now found its way into the hands of the car-collecting Poulter for an undisclosed ...

East Lake, Atlanta, GA … Jordan Spieth’s job as Bubba Watson’s ‘papa bear’ has failed. It took just two questions before Watson was quizzed on the Ryder Cup after the double Masters champion posted a level par 72 on the opening day of the season-ending Tour Championship in Atlanta. Indeed the remaining nine of 10 questions directed to Bubba were about his hopes of being afforded a ‘wildcard’ pick on Sunday night. But it seems Bubba is just as much in the ...

Austrian golfing giant Bernd Wiesberger record a career equalling lowest round in signing for a 63 on the opening day of the weather-affected Porsche European Open in Germany. Wiesberger’s eight under par score handed him a two-shot lead over Italy’s Renato Paratore, on a day when three hours and 25 minutes of play was lost to fog early in the morning at Golf Resort Bad Griesbach. That meant that the entire second wave would have to return to complete their first rounds on Friday but ...

East Lake, Atlanta, GA …. Top-ranked USA Ryder Cup star Dustin Johnson hinted of a first rift in the American team declaring he does not want to be partnered with Phil Mickelson at next week’s Ryder Cup. ‘DJ’ did not hold back when asked about a likely pairing on the eve of this week’s PGA season-ending Tour Championship. “I think I can partner pretty well with pretty much anyone, except for Phil,” said Johnson. “Me and Phil don’t partner well ...

East Lake, Atlanta, GA … England’s always affable Paul Casey declared he’d ‘stash’ the $US 10m cash if he captured this week’s season-ending Tour Championship in Atlanta. Casey, who’s won close to $US2m in the past two PGA Tour events in finishing runner-up on both occasions, would walk away with $US1.5m in winning at East Lake along with the £10m FedEx Cup bonus prize. If so, Casey would be the first Brit to win in the 10-year history of the elite 30-player field. “I’d ...

East Lake, Atlanta. GA … Russell Knox joked he would ‘save’ the $10m (£7.7m) bonus prize if he won this week’s PGA Tour season-ending FedEx Cup in Atlanta. Knox is only the second Scot after compatriot Martin Laird in 2010 to tee-up in the Tour’s 30-player only finale on the East Lake course. But unlike Laird who finished well down in 95th that season and before changes to the qualifying process, Knox mathematically does have the chance to lift the FedEx Cup. However, it would mean ...
