Meronk: ‘The Putter Was Hot, Very Hot’ As Pole Seeks Seventh Career Title

Adrian Meronk proudly stated his putter was hot, very hot in posting a sizzling nine-under 63 on the Kingsbarns Links course to be tied second heading to the final round of  the 25th hosting of the Alfred Duhill Links Champioship.

Meronk is just two shots adrift of South African Casey Jarvis with the South African capping his round of 67 in holing his second shot for an eagle ‘2’ on the 10th hole at the Old Course at St. Andrews.

Joining Meronk sharing second is England’s Matthew Jordan in posting a 66 at Kingsbarns.

The LIV attached Meronk kick-started his round also in brilliant fashion thanks to four birdied to kick-start his round ahead of three in succession from the 10th and then holing out for an eagle along the seaside 16th hole at Kingsbarns.

And the 33-year-old spoke afterwards of how good was his putting as he now seeks a first taste of victory since early last year when he captured a first LIV Tour victory at the LIV Golf Riyadh

An incredible 9-under 63 on moving day at Kingsbarns. Can you talk me through your day’s work, please.

ADRIAN MERONK: Yeah, first of all, it’s nice to be standing here. I haven’t been here for a while in this position. Yeah, I got off to a great start today, four birdies in a row. Played really nicely. My putter was hot, very hot. I kept rolling the ball nicely and I’m so happy with the round and how the day worked.

Q. You mentioned you took advantage of your opening holes with four birdies in a row. How important to get off to a fast start here?

ADRIAN MERONK: Yeah, definitely. Conditions weren’t that hard. We’ve had much stronger winds and rain before, so it was quite gettable. You just need to hole putts and that’s what I did today, and I’m very happy about that.

Q. Was the putter a strength for you today? You holed a monster eagle putt on the par 5, 16?

ADRIAN MERONK: The putter was definitely the best part of my game and the whole game felt solid today. Yeah, the putt on 16 for eagle was just perfect. A double breaker downhill, and as soon as I hit it, I knew it’s going to have a good chance, and looked great all the way.

Q. Obviously nice full circle moment for you. You began your pro career here ten years ago at the Dunhill Links. How nice to reminisce on your pro career here this week?

ADRIAN MERONK: Yeah, obviously great memories. I can’t believe how time flies. You know, how fast it flies. It’s already ten years as a professional but it’s great to be back here. It’s such a unique and great championship. Dunhill is just a great tournament. I’m happy about my spot going into Sunday, and I’m just going to enjoy myself and see what happens.

Q. Currently 141st in Race to Dubai, great chance to win at the Home of Golf tomorrow. What would a good finish here do for your season and playing rights on the DP World Tour?

ADRIAN MERONK: Yeah, that’s definitely one of my goals for the rest of the season is to keep status for next year. Obviously that’s why I’m playing every single week now, to get those points.

I felt like I’ve been playing really well the last couple of weeks. Just didn’t get the full results. Hopefully this is the week. But just play my game tomorrow and see what happens at the end.

Q. What would it mean to win your fifth DP World Tour title at the Home of Golf tomorrow?

ADRIAN MERONK: Yeah, I mean, it would be super special. But we still have 18 holes to go. It’s going to be a tricky day tomorrow with the weather forecast. So I’m just going to get mentally ready for that and play my best and if it’s enough, it will be great, and we’ll see what happens
