It’s now been a few weeks since we left the States after we reported on 10 PGA tournaments in succession but memories of driving our Chevy Camaro for five of those weeks lives on.
We had arrived in Augusta on the Sunday night ahead of the Masters after having missed our direct flight to Atlanta.
It was hardly a problem as our final destination was Augusta.
However we were due to pick-up a standard economy rental car in Atlanta – still no problem.
We managed to change the booking to Augusta but then there would be no cars available to Tuesday.
However when Tour Miss made her way back out to Augusta Regional Airport she was again advised that there was no ‘economy’ rental cars but was advised we can rent you ‘that car over there and you can have it at the price of an economy rental’.
Of course, you can imagine Tour Miss’s surprise when she got her first look at a 2013 Chevy Camaro.
By way of history, the first Chevy Camaro went on sale in 1966 and was manufactured to rival the Ford Mustang.
We retained the Chevy Camaro for five weeks driving from Augusta south-east to Hilton Head for the RBC Heritage Classic and then on to New Orleans before travelling up to Charlotte in North Carolina for the Wells Fargo Championship.
The Chevy Camaro then took us to Ponte Vedre Beach for my first Players Championship since the event was moved to May.
For a third occasion I washed the Chevy Camaro the Monday morning after Martin Kaymer captured the Players Championship, and I have never, ever washed a rent-a-car, before heading to Atlanta.
Call me sentimental but it was a somewhat ‘sad’ occasion when we drove into the Enterprise rental car center at Atlanta Airport some adding some 3,500 miles on the odometer.
