EXCLUSIVE …Top Scot Robert MacIntyre Admits Three Weeks Back Home Has Re-Engerised His Rookie PGA Tour Year

Top Scot Bob MacIntyre admits three weeks back home in his beloved Oban has re-energised his rookie PGA Tour season.

MacIntyre also indicated he touched his clubs just twice during the period chilling out with family and friends.

However, in returning to the PGA Tour for this week’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans, and where he and partner Thomas Detry in the Mardis Gras city, MacIntyre revealed the stress he was enduring competing Stateside for a first time in his career.

Prior to returning home, MacIntyre’s contested 10 PGA Tour events, securing a best of sixth at the Mexico Open but missing the halfway cut in five, including the ultra-rich $25m Players Championship at Tour HQ.

He’s currently ranked 117th on the FedEx Cup standings but will need to be inside the top-115 at year’s end if he’s to retain full PGA Tour membership.

MacIntyre’s seemingly uneasiness in embracing this new chapter in his career is also reflected in his current No. 82 world ranking, his poorest in nearly two years and it meant missing out on qualifying for last fortnight’s Masters.

As well, MacIntyre’s poor form is also reflected in his constant change of caddies with now a second new caddy on his bag since last September’s Ryder Cup.

“I’ve had three weeks off and it’s bad to say but I only touched my clubs twice in the three weeks”, said MacIntyre exclusively to GolfByTourMiss & Record Sport

“For me, the last three, four to five events stretch I played, I was just struggling.  I wasn’t enjoying it.   Things were getting on top of me and I just needed a complete reset.

“So, I went home and spent a lot of time with the family and friends.  I had a laugh.  I had a good time and I’ve returned refreshed and saying to my caddy that I am so chilled-out this week compared to the last two, three and four events I had.

“I was just getting on top of myself, getting a little bit stressed.  So, getting back home to familiar faces and familiar places does the world of good for me”.

Of course, MacIntyre is now based in Orlando having rented a house within the famed Isleworth Estate that should help with ease of competing in the US.

MacIntyre was speaking after he and Detry posted a second round 72 to be sharing 11th place but only two shots behind the leading four groups that features the all-Ireland duo of Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy.
