EXCLUSIVE .. MacIntyre Tames Puerto Rico Heat To Make It Three From Three Weekenders.

EXCLUSIVE ….

Top-ranked Scot MacIntyre battled the hot windy conditions in a comfortable round of 67 to be assured of playing all four rounds in his maidan appearance in the Puerto Rico Open.

MacIntye is the highest world-ranked in the field at World No. 68 and was five-under through 11 holes but finished a little short-changed in playing the last eight holes at just one under, with three birdies and one less bogey in his score of 67.

It handed him a top-20 position as the afternoon half of the field were heading out onto the host Grand Reserve course.

MacIntyre said: “I played well overall but a little disappointed with my back-nine as I was cruising along nicely, so to finish the way I finished leaves me quite sore. Overall, it’s a good round.

“There is a breeze out there but it’s a warm wind and not as affective if it was colder.  There is a lot of chances on this golf course, so for me it’s about staying aggressive and just try and take your chances with the putter.

“I am probably hitting more drivers on this golf course than anyone else in the tournament. I hit a drive into the water and that was going to happen at some point, so it’s just stay aggressive and try and trying to hole the putts”.

As mentioned, it is the Scot’s first visit to the Caribbean island and while temperatures are in the mid-80s MacIntyre is trying to stay cool in, this his seventh Tour start of his rookie season.

“It’s good being here but it’s a touch hot for me but then it’s a beautiful setting”, he said.

“So, looking forward to a good weekend.  Our goal was to play each nine in two-under and while I got off to a bad start yesterday (Two-over after five holes) but managed to get it back and post a 70, today I got off to a nice start and while I didn’t finish great I may have to change the way I play the back nine.

“So at seven-under-par we are going to need another seven-under tomorrow and see where we sit heading into Sunday”.

And Russell Knox was right on the expected three-under cut mark, adding a one-under 71 to his opening 70.

It is double Tour winning Knox’s first PGA Tour event of the year.
