MacIntyre Delighted To Be Teeing-Up This Week In His New Home State

Top Scot Robert MacIntyre gets to tee-up in his new home state of Florida for a first time in his rookie PGA Tour season at this week’s Cognizant Classic at West Palm Beach.

The $US 9m event is around a 160-mile drive, south on the Florida Turnpike from MacIntyre’s rented Isleworth Estate abode in Orlando.

The Oban lefty will be riding easy after last week’s season-best of a T6th at the Mexican Open earned MacIntyre a cool £stg 223,270 and with just a second pay cheque in his five starts this year lifting him to 87th on the FedEx Cup standings behind fellow 2023 DP Tour World graduate Matthieu Pavon.

Importantly, it was MacIntyre’s best finish anywhere since a similar T6th showing four months ago at the CB Qatar Masters.

As well, the Scot’s first visit to Mexico corrected his slide on the World Rankings since being ranked World No. 54 after his efffort in Qatar.

MacIntyre tees-up in this week up five places and back to World No. 66.

He now has just this month, but also at this stage just this week’s confirmed Tour start, to get back inside the top-50 and earn a Masters invitation.

MacIntye said: “Overall, tee to green last week felt really good, and apart from a couple of non-committed swings on the last day that was a bit disappointing.

“Other than that, it was a very solid week and good momentum heading into this week’s event here in Florida.

“The good points about my game are that I am driving it really well while my long-iron play is good, so I will be trying to just keep on doing what I’m doing and let it keep ticking away, and hopefully the putter will come along”.

Joining MacIntyre in this week’s Jack Nicklaus hosted event will be World No. 2 Rory McIlroy, and a first event since the closing ’23 DP World Tour event last year when both were in the same field.

MacIntyre said: “It will be good to catch-up with Rory and, obviously, I want to compete against the best in the world.

“Rory’s one of them, and it’s always good to be good to be playing in a strong field tournament”

Unfortunately, raising the statue of next week’s Arnold Palmer Invititational event to a $US 20m, 80-players only, ‘Signature’ event has ruled out the likes of MacIntyre earning a Ryder Cup winner exemption as was the entry scenario a year ago. Instead, he will need to win or finish top-5 this week if he’s to be competing at Bay Hill which is located more than a few minutes from his new home on the exclusive Isleworth Estate.

Joining MacIntyre this week at PGA National will be fellow Scot Martin Laird.

MEANTIME ….

The Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club has opened a GoFundMe page to help meet the enormous costs in repair and stone armourment work following last October’s erosion damage caused by Storm Ciarnan

Disappointingly, it seems the club’s continuing efforts to seek assistance from the local Highland Council has fallen on deaf ears.
