Pelley Quitting European Tour CEO Role & A Second Leading Golf Official In Two Days

European Tour CEO Keith Pelley is leaving his role and returning to his native Canada, having accepted the post as  President and CEO of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, based in his home city of Toronto, Canada.

Pelley’s last day as CEO will be 1st April, 2024.

Confirmation of Pelley’s new role already appears on Wikipedia and it comes a day in learning R & A CEO Martin Slumbers will also step down later this year,

News of Pelley’s new comes on the day of his 60th birthday (January 11th). He became just the fourth CEO in the 50-year history of the European Tohur in May, 2015 and a year after Slumbers took over the leading reins at the R & A.

Pelley will now be in charge of the parent company of the Toronto Maple Leafs ice hockey team, the Toronte Raptors basketball side, the Toronto Football Club and the Toronto Argonauts, a pro football team in his home nation of Canada.

The Maple Leafs in 1917 was one the then six founding NHL teams.

News of Pelley’s departure comes at a delicate in men’s pro golf with negotiations still not finalised in the DP World Tour and PGA Tour’s dealings with their merger with the Saudi-based Public Investment Fund.

Guy Kinnings, the present number two to Pelley as the deptuy CEO and Ryder Cup Director, will take over from Pelley

Pelley is currently in Dubai and competing as an amateur in the inaugural Dubai Invitational and with the Tour issuing a press statement soon after his round.
