Drysdale Scotland Bound Sky High After Securing Asian Tour Card

Scot David Drysdale maybe a tinge disappointed but he’s heading home sky high delighted to have secured his 2024 Asian Tour card.

Drysdale signed for a disappointing second round, not helped by the shortest club in his bag in posting a five-over-par 76 to miss the cut by four shots in the season-ending PIF Saudi Open in Riyadh.

He recorded two early round double-bogeys to make the turn in four-over before dropped shots at 12 and 14 ahead of a birdie at the par-5 15th.

And while now missing from the weekend rounds, in the bigger end-of-season picture the proud Scot has retained his Asian Tour, and at 48-years of age becoming one of the oldest rookies in the history of the Asian Tour to do so.

Drysdale arrived in the Saudi capital lying 43rd on the money-list and despite not being present for all four rounds on the the host Saudi club course, he will not drop out of the leading-65 and thus earn full 2024 Tour membership come the close of play on Sunday.

He said: “It’s not the way I wanted to end the season but I just struggled from the time we arrived here on Tuesday.

“I just didn’t hit the clubface well all week.  It’s a crazy game and just put it down to one of those weeks.

“You never want to miss the cut in any tournament you tee-up but then Vicky and I haven’t been back to Scotland for a while, so now looking forward to catching-up with family and friends over the Christmas season.

“I said back  in January that when I secured my Asian Tour card, that this week is where I wanted to be, so looking back it’s been a great year for Vicky and myself and, on the whole, I’m pretty pleased how this first in my career unfolded given it was a season of limited starts.

“So, it’s been a great rookie season for this 48-year-old rookie but for now just looking forward to putting the clubs away, enjoy the festive season and then look forward to the new Asian Tour season”.

The Drysdale’s are heading back to Dubai and then a connecting flight home to Scotland.

Three players lead the way in Riyadh at eight-under with LIV’s Henrik Stenson just three back with two rounds to play.

And a stunning eighth hole eagle ‘3’ helped lift Marc Warren into the weekend rounds of the DP World Tour’s AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, and the assurance of a first pay cheque in his second event of the new 2024 season.

The Bearsden golfer finished right on the one-under cut mark to be trailing nine adrift of Swede Sebastain Soderberg, who heads the field on 10-under.

Frenchman Antoine Rozner proved again how fickle the game can be posting a two-over 74 and a dozen shots more than his opening round course record 62.
