Young One Round Shy Of Earning Full ’24 DPWT Membership

Daniel Young knows he needs to get putter working heading to the sixth and closing round of DP World Tour Final Qualifying at Tarragona in Spain.

Young, 32, posted a fifth round four-under 68 to be among seven players sharing 24th place at 12-under, and with the leading 25 and ties securing full 2024 main Tour membership.

The Kingsbarns Links attached Scot battled the bright but windy conditions with birdies at his opening two holes birdies and with birdies at 10 and 12 before the only bogey at 15 on the Lakes Course at the Infinitum resort.

Young said: “It was okay out there. It got a bit windy. It wasn’t to begin with. For the first six or seven holes it was relatively calm but it whipped up after that so coming in was a bit interesting.

“I started off really well. I actually played really well all day but just struggled with the putter and didn’t hole much. I gave myself plenty of chances to actually shoot a low one but unfortunately the putter was a bit cold.

“I’m still in a position where we’ve got one more day thankfully to give it a whirl. I’ll do a little bit of work with the putter this afternoon and hopefully I’ll make some more birdies.

“I think I’ve just been pretty consistent. I’ve been really good tee to green. I’ve hit a lot of quality shots. I guess there’s certain holes where you need to hit good shots. There’s a few more where you can get away with it a bit more. But I feel like I’ve been consistent tee to green which has been the most pleasing. I’ve given myself plenty of chances for the majority of the week so hopefully that can continue tomorrow.”

Fellow Scot Marc Warren slipped four shots behind Young and is going to need a repeat of Sunday’s fourth round 66, that included an inward half of 29, if he’s to regain his Tour card.

Dane Sebastian Friedrichsen, 21, eagled his last in a score of 66 to head into the last day one clear at 23-under.
