DP World Tour’s Only ‘Mr. 59’ Teeing-Up At Final Qualifying

There’s one name that stands out in glancing down the list of 152 players teeing-up tomorrow (Friday) in the first of six rounds at the Final Qualifier to earn a 2024 DP World Tour card.

He’s still the only DP World Tour player to break 60 – Tom ‘Mr. 59’ Fisher.

It’s understood to be a first visit to Final Qualifying for Fisher since he joined the Tour full-time in 2007.

Fisher, and wearing a bright Tiger Woods-like red shirt but on a Friday, created Tour history on the second day of the 2018 Portugal Masters in posting the magical 59 on route to a share of seventh of the host Victoria course at Vilamoura.

Oliver ‘Mr. 59’ Fisher – Still the only DP World Tour player to shoot 59

Sadly, since the euphoria of that historic day there’s been far too many rounds in the 70s in the just over 100 DP World Tour events the now 35-year-old affable Englishman has contested since Portugal,  and with a best finish of a pair of top-10s.

In fact, the 2011 Czech Open champ contested just two DP World Tour events this season and those being this time last year at the opening event of the 2022/23 schedule at the Joburg Open and in March when he teed-up in the Magical Kenya Open.

The magic that Fisher had produced in Portugal saw him head to the secondary Challenge Tour however in contesting 11 events, he ended the regular season well down at 183rd on the Road to Majorca money list.

However, while those on the Challenge Tour were competing last week in Majorca Fisher finished T19th, and among the leading 23, at the second stage of 2024 DP World Tour qualifying to earn him place among 151 others players teeing-up over six rounds in Tarragona, Spain.

Other ‘name’ players competing in Final Qualifying include fellow DP World Tour winners Thomas Aiken, Gregory Boudy, Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano, Alex Levy, Tom Lewis, Kiradech Aphibarnrat and Kris Broberg.

Wishing not only Ollie every success but all those teeing-up in Spain.
