McGuire: Maguire’s Odd Slashed For Tour’s Third Major

Double LPGA winning Leona Maguire has seen her betting odds slashed for this week’s KPMG PGA Championship in New Jersey.

This is on the back of Maguire’s stunning second Tour victory, Sunday at the Meijer LPGA Classic in Michigan.

The 28-year-old posted a closing round 64 for a two-shot success, and some 16-months after her breakthrough Tour victory earlier last year.

And on both occasions, the quietly-spoken K. Club attached golfer has done it silencing two of the big names in women’s pro golf – Lexi Thompson and Thailand’s ultra-talented Ariya Jutanugarn.

Twelve months ago, Maguire was runner-up in last week’s event, and she tweeted her excitement on social media, in stepping-up to the top rung of the leaderboard:

“Twice the bridesmaid, finally the bride @MeijerPGA – Delighted to get my 2nd LPGA win, Thank you to my team for all their hardwork and belief in me and to everyone for their messages of support. Happy Father’s Day dad.”

Irish bookmakers BoyleSports have cut Maguire’s odds in winning the third of five LPGA women’s majors, with the Irishwoman down from 40/1 to 18/1.

And odds of her winning this week’s major or any of the remaining pair has Maguire at a still tidy 5/1.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Irish punters are banking an even more prestigious honour now that Leona Maguire is a multiple tour winner and confidence is growing that a landmark major victory could arrive as early as this week.”
