Law Takes Route 66 To Share Of Second Day Two Porsche European Open

Scotland’s David Law superbly muscled his way in position to end a more than four-year winless drought heading to the weekend rounds of the Porsche Open in Hamburg.

Law, 32, jumped straight into the overtaking lane posting six birdies and a ninth hole eagle in an outward half of just 30 on route to a seven-under 66, moving into three-way tie for second place with England’s Jordan Smith (71) and Holywood rookie Tom McKibbon (69) at five-under on the ultra-tough Green Eagle host course.

German Max Kieffer continues to lead by a shot adding a 69 to move to six-under, and with just 20 players under par after the two rounds, and only three more than day one on the par-73 layout, while the halfway cut also was a very high four-over par.

Aberdonian Law capped his round at his ninth and the par-5 18th on the card in holing a 20-foot eagle putt, and after four birdies in succession, as the affable Scot seeks a second Tour title in capturing the 2019 VIC Open ‘Down Under’.

Law said: “It’s a very tough golf course, I went out there on the front nine just trying to play golf and make birdies and score as low as I can.

“Then the brakes came on over the back nine, but it’s a difficult course, it’s just tough.

“The goal is to keep going what we were doing. I tried hard on the back nine to keep in the present and make birdies like we were, but it didn’t happen. It’s just a really tough course”.

Fellow Scot Ewen Ferguson also remains in sight of Tour win No. 3 signing for two-under 72 to be at three-under.

And Oban lefty Robert MacIntyre singled out his bogey-free five-under 68 to be just outside the top-10 at two-under, to be his best putting display ever.

MacIntyre, switched back to a TaylorMade (One word – cap M) ‘Spider’ putter in posting just 24 putts, 12 on each nine, and with 12 of those also one-putts, and with the pick being respective birdie putts of 20-feet and 13-feet at his 13th and 14th holes.

It was an effort eight shots fewer than his opening 76 while making the cut should now halt MacIntyre’s slide outside the top-100 on the World Rankings.

MacIntyre said: “I’m struggling a wee bit just now with injuries and whatnot. The body’s just not fully right, I’m making adjustments to make things work.

“Attitude is the biggest thing just now, I’m in places I shouldn’t be.

“My short game, my putting was good today, and I changed my putter at the start of this week back to a Spider I used to use.

“It’s just a slightly different colour and today is probably the best I’ve potentially ever putted”.
