Woods Seemingly Certain To Tee-Up In His 25th Masters

Tiger Woods seems almost certain to competing at the Masters next week, after tournament organisers confirmed he would face the accredited Augusta media in the lead-up to the year’s first major championship.

It will mark the five-time Masters champions 25th appearance on the Georgia golfing gem since his debut as an amateur in 1995, while it will be only Woods second event this year after his T45th finish at the Genesis Invitational.

Indeed, since 2020, Woods has contested only three competitive events last year as he continued to recover from the severe leg injuries sustained in a car accident in February 2021

The now 47-year-old revealed in November he had developed plantar fasciitis in his right foot, adding to his injury woes, and has regularly emphasised just how much work is needed on his body before and after rounds to allow him to compete.

Woods, winner of the Masters in 1997, 2001, 2002, 2005 and then remarkably in 2019 but after playing in 2020, he was forced to miss 2021 after suffering life-threatening injuries two months earlier in February that year.

Woods teed-up last year and bravely make the cut on route to sharing 47th place.

The 15-time major champion has only once failed to make the cut at the Masters and that was in 1996, and his last time playing an amateur.

Woods will host a press conference at Augusta on Tuesday next week at 4pm BST, with Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm up earlier in the day. Cameron Smith is the only LIV players included in the interview schedule – he will face questions at 8pm on Monday.
