Nice Legs … Why Players Are Wearing Shorts At Leopard Creek.

It’s a sight not often seen during formal competition in men’s golf and that’s the wearing of shorts.

Of course, men are allowed to wear shorts during DP World Tour and PGA Tour practice rounds but once the competition proper gets underway, it’s the standard trousers for all players.

Though this is not the rule at this week’s co-sanctioned Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek in South Africa with officials relaxing the trousers-rule to allow the wearing of shorts.

Among those electing to wear shorts is four-time major winning Ernie Els who is competing in a DP World Tour event for a first time since early last year, and with Els guaranteeing himself four days sporting shorts with scores of 70 and 69 on the host Leopard Creek course.

Of course, not all players have chosen to wear shorts and GolfByTourMiss is unsure if that’s due to the fact they didn’t pack shorts into their luggage or they just don’t have the legs to wear shorts.

And for the record, it’s not the first time players have been afforded the option in being allowed to wear shorts with the Tour approving of the wearing of shorts at this same event in 2019 when the decision created history as a first to allow such an attire policy when temperatures were nudging close to 40 degress Celsius.

In fact, tournament organisers posted the following tweet:-

Of course, shorts are permitted to be worn by golfers signed to compete in the LIV Golf events.  It was a move that LIV stated was also sought to attract younger players to the game.

However, don’t expect those green-jacket members at Augusta National to allow the wearing of shorts either during practice or competition.
