Ferguson Taking Much-Needed Break Ahead Of Wrapping-Up His ‘Rookie Of The Year’ Double-Winning Season

Scotland’s super-talented Ewen Ferguson has a welcome week off before his closing out his two remaining 2022 events in an impressive rookie DP World Tour season.

The already double-winning Tour champ in the Year of the Tiger grabbed a fifth top-10 of the season with his share of ninth in the Mallorca Open in Palma.

Ferguson, 27, posted a closing 69, that included three birdies and just one bogey, for an 11-under tally.

The effort has moved the Bearsden golfer up a place to 13th on the Race to Dubai and further cement Ferguson’s grasp on the ‘once in a lifetime’ Rookie of the Year honour ahead of his last two events of the year the Nedbank Challenge in South Africa and the season-ending DP World Tour Championship.

Ferguson said: “My caddie and I agreed at the start of today that the conditions were pretty tough for everyone to go low and that’s how it unfolded.

“So, very happy to shoot under par and looking back over the four days I’m pleased as I had just two bogeys all week.

“The good thing is that my head was in a good place this week, and I hust felt a whole lot sharper after missing the cut last week at Valderrama.

“Now looking for the week off before my last two events of my year.”

Germany’s unheralded Yannick Paul birdied the last in a closing 72 and win by a shot at 15-under par, and with the 28-year-old winning a first Tour title.

Kiwi Ryan Fox, who shared the third-round lead and was seeking a third win this year on the back of his recent Dunhill Links success, had a mare posting a 74 to share fourth place.

And spare a thought for England’s Marcus Armitage who led by a shot with three holes to play but finished in an ambulance with scores of bogey, double-bogey and bogey in his score of 73 to end in a share of sixth.
