Varner 111 Continues To Show The Way In Saudi

American Harold Varner 111 continued to fight the off-shore Red Sea winds the best retaining his lead in signing for a two-under-par 68 and retaining a one-shot lead at 12-under-par.

Spaniard Ardi Arnaus also holds down his second place in the $5m event shooting a 69 and edge to 10-under, and with England’s Tommy Fleetwood continuing to edge closer to the first win in over two years signing for 67 to be a 10-under.

Double Saudi winning Dustin Johnson, and like Fleetwood, birdied the last also in a round of 67 to be sharing fifth place at seven-under.

Varner 111, 31, continues to place himself in position for just a second pro career win, and now five years post his 2017 Australian PGA Championship success.

“I’m just hanging in there”, said Varner 111.  “The pins were really good pins today especially on 11 and 12.  So, I just did a good job of just slowing down and just doing my job. I le competing. I mean, it’s the greatest thing in life is competing and just working at it.

“The good thing about my game is slowing it down in these conditions. I think it’s easy to start rushing, you know, it’s my turn to hit. Just slow down and do your job. Obviously, the wind picked up on the back nine, so it was just super hard”.

MEANTIME

Graeme McDowell joined Jason Duffner playing the immaculate-looking 9-hole Safaa Golf Course Saturday morning after each had missed the cut in the Saudi International.

The course is located about a 20-minute drive from King Adbullah city and was opened earlier last decade.

On hand to welcome the major winning duo was Nic Davies, the Project Manager of the club, also boasting a stunning clubhouse.

Davies reported that Greg Norman and Jarrod Kushner were guests on Thursday.
