Royal Troon Misses Out On Their 2023 Centenary Open Championship

Royal Troon will miss celebrating the hosting of the 100th anniversary of the club’s first Open Championship in 1923 after an R & A decision not to switch the 2023 Open with Royal Birkdale.

Prior to the cancellation of this year’s 149th Open at Royal St. George’s, Troon was all set to celebrate the 2023 Open a year after Royal Birkdale in 2022.

But with Royal St. George’s now 2021, St. Andrews in 2022, the R & A decided to stick with Royal Birkdale for 2023 rather than swap years with Troon.

It means Royal Troon will host the 2024 Open.

Royal Troon has accepted the decision with the club’s captain saying: “Following the most unusual circumstances this year, affecting all our lives, Royal Troon Golf Club looks forward with eager anticipation in hosting The Open in 2024.”
