Once again, we have yet another glaring example why European golfers bond so well every second year compared to their American cousins on the opposite side of ‘The Pond’.

The European Tour’s latest video blockbuster is a 6 minutes and 29 seconds clip called:  “The Conference Call”.

Double Major winning German, Martin Kaymer has the job of conference convenour for seven of his fellow European players plus a special guest, and with the topic of group discussion being ‘European Tour issues’.

European No. 1 Tommy Fleetwood is the first to log-on and who is seen later in the call blow-drying his hair and then having to leave with a crying young son, Franklin in his arms.

Next up is eight-time European Tour No. 1 Colin Montgomerie and with the Scot sitting behind the wheel of his gleaming BMW while later in the conference we see Monty more interested in chasing a fly that’s got inside his vehicle.

Kaymer advises they have a ‘special guest’ on the call and its nine-time Major winning Gary Player who begins by saying how nice it is to be staying at home and does a typical ‘Gary Player’ by delving headlong in talking about his career and is still speaking about his career at the very end of the conference when everyone else has logged off.

Player is interruped by Kaymer who introduces triple Major winning, Padraig Harrington and with the 2020 European Ryder Cup captain saying:  “Hi lads!”  Harrington complains about his internet ‘behaving like a right ….’ and his connection to the call is lost.

 

We then have Masters champ, Sergio Garcia charged with taking notes and repeating, as he types, Harrington’s comments.  Kaymer interrupts the Augusta National winning hero asking if he could do his sssigned job a lot quieter, so Garcia mutes himself.

U.S. Open champ, Justin Rose joins the call as does Open winner, Henrik Stenson wearing a black t-shirt but then when he comes back there’s a backdrop of the  Colosseum in Rome, and host city for the 2022 Ryder Cup.

“I didn’t know we were holding this meeting in ancient Rome!” says Stenson who then gets up to reveal he’s wearing only white briefs below the waist.  It was the Swede’s white briefs we saw when Stenson stripped down to just his briefs in playing a shot from mud during the first round of the 2009 WGC – CA Championship in Florida.

Lee Westwood is also on the call but he’s on his exercise bike and calls on Kaymer to go ahead without him.

The hilarious clip, and seen by some 230,000 viewers in the first five hours, ends with Rose thanking Kaymer and wishing his fellow colleagues well but Rose, and having left his microphone ‘open’, is heard saying:  “What a total (bleep) waste of time. Bunch of clowns!”

The European Tour media team have come-up with some gems in the past including the multi-award winning 2027 featuring Andrew (Beef) Johnston, Rose, Stenson & Kaymer when they surprise a 9-year-old boy, named Aaron, on his birthday and driving he and his father to the BMW PGA Championship.

There was also the clip post soon after the 2018 Ryder Cup with Italy’s Francesco Molinari waking up in a double bed holding the Ryder Cup but totally surprised to see Fleetwood in bed beside him.

The golf ball is now in the court of the PGA Tour.
