Canadian-born Nick Taylor is understandably annoyed the staging of the 2020 RBC Canadian Open has been cancelled.

Taylor is the reigning AT & T Pebble Beach Pro-Am champion and with the 31-year old Winnipeg-born golfer ending a six-year winless drought earlier in the February this year with his four-shot success at Pebble Beach.

And while the PGA Tour has now known for weeks the Toronto City Council has cancelled all sponsored events to the end of June and that includes the June 11-14 RBC Canadian Open, Taylor and his fellow Canadians were only formally made aware of the pending cancellation following Tuesday’s Players Advisory Committee phone hook-up among all committee members.

“It sucks,” said Taylor.  “The Canadian Open is definitely a tournament I circle on my calendar.

“This year, with so many Canadians playing on the PGA Tour and, for me, having my best year ever, it would have been great. But right now, getting back to golf seems a long way away.”

Taylor still has the consolation of teeing-up in a first Masters later this year.

Adding to the cancellation of the Canadian Open, and first staged in 1904, is cross-border travel restrictions between the United States and Canada and limiting non-essential travel.  And anyone entering Canada from the U.S. or abroad is also subject to a 14-day quarantine period.

As also reported by www.golfbytourmiss.com the Tour is poised to announce tomorrow (Thursday) a compacted PGA Tour schedule.

The revised calendar will commence from June 11-14 with the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas and the first of 13 tournaments concluding with the September 3-7 Tour Championship at East Lake in suburban Atlanta.

And in what is totally bizarre and in an already bizarre season,  the Safeway Open in Napa, California and the third event of the 2019/20 PGA Tour schedule will now become the opening event on the 2020/21 schedule and to be staged from September 10-13, and in between the season-ending Tour Championship in Atlanta and rescheduled U.S. Open.

The other majors, the PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco has been rescheduled for August 6-9 while the 149th Open Championship at Royal St. George’s was cancelled earlier this month.
