Wallace Soaring Atop Of BMW PGA Thanks To Whirlwind Wentworth 65.

England’s Matt Wallace was soaring atop of the BMW PGA Championship day one leader-board all thanks to an eagle and five birdies for a 65.

Wallace continued from where he left off less than a week ago in finishing third at the KLM Open to eagle the par-5 fourth hole and bag five birdies to head the strong field on seven-under par.

The effort is his best BMW PGA score in eight rounds on the famed Wentworth course to hand the 29-year the lead by a stroke.

” Very happy. Whenever you can get off to a start like that in the tournament, boosts your confidence and just going on from last week, really,” said Wallace.

“I said to my caddy ‘Smarty’ when we were walking to the first tee, let’s keep the same focus as how we ended last week. Why can’t you, you know. Just carry it on. It’s very nice and pleasing to shoot that round here.”

Wallace is  four-time winner on the European Tour, including three victories a year ago that put him close to a ‘wildcard’ pick for the Ryder Cup, but the Englishman is yet to taste success this season.

His best finish this year was second at both the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and the British Masters.

The 2018 victorious Ryder Cup duo of Henrik Stenson and Jon Rahm share second place on six-under par.
