England Rookie Jordan Muscles His Way Atop Of The Dunhill Links Board In Scotand

Twenty-three year England rookie Matthew Jordan brilliantly muscled his way to the top of the leader board thanks to a sizzling 64 for a one-shot lead heading to the third round of the Alfred Dunhill Links in Scotland.

The Royal Liverpool attached Jordan is contesting only his seventh full European Tour event this year, and a first also since May’s British Masters.

It was an electrifying start on the Old Course when he proceeded to hole his second shot for an eagle ‘2’ at the par-4 third hole and then birdie the next five holes in an outward nine of just 29 shots.

And while Jordan began thinking of a magical 59, he stalled over his closing nine managing just the one birdie at the 13th.

“After that start, I wanted to keep momentum, because I knew I would have chances. Just try and go as low as possible because the scoring is so good. You can’t make a few birdies and think, oh, I’ve done my job,” he said.

“I was just free-wheeling it really. I wasn’t thinking too much which is probably a good thing.

“A 59 did cross my mind once. I had my friends here and they were quick to tell me that they wanted the same on the back nine.

“I’ve done quite well recently. I had one more invite so I just asked my managers, and tried to sort it out because I really wanted to play it and I absolutely love this place. Just trying to make the most of it.”

Jordan had red British Masters in May, eventually finishing in a share of 15th place at Hillside Golf Clu

World Number Four Justin Rose was among the six players in a tie for fifth position on 12 under, alongside two home stars in Russell Knox and Richie Ramsey as well as New Zealand’s Ryan Fox, Englishman Jordan Smith and Victor Perez of France.
