Last Man In Wilson Now Looking To Go Out On Top At Qatar Masters.

Last man in Oliver Wilson is on target to finish on top and end a more than four years winless drought with hopeful victory in the Qatar Masters.

Wilson, 38 birdied two of his closing four holes in a round of 69 for a one-shot lead at 10-under par on the windswept Doha course.

Golf’s ‘Mr. Nice Guy’ has superbly gone from securing the last place into the Qatar event and now looking to win for only the second time in 304 main Tour events since the Englishman made his debut in 2004.

Wilson had been a member of the losing 2008 European Ryder Cup team and then lost his Tour card in 2011 before securing a very emotional first victory at the 2014 Alfred Dunhill Links at St. Andrews.

And after losing his card at the end of 2017, Wilson won it back with two victories last year on the secondary Challenge Tour.

He said:  “I’m delighted quite frankly but there’s still a long way to go and it’s good I’m heading in the right direction.

“It’s just nice to be back in the mix. I didn’t play very well today, I struggled a little bit, I didn’t feel comfortable with my swing but I managed to keep it in play and hit some good shots when I needed to.

“The last four holes I suddenly found something and hit good shots all the way in. Maybe it’s a bit of maturity or something, I don’t know, but I’m really pleased that I allowed that to happen. Sometimes it’s easy to lose your head a little bit.”

Wilson won’t find the last way with two dozen other players within five shots of his lead including Scotland’s Scott Jamieson.

Jamieson has got better with each round shooting scores of 73, 69 and then brilliantly birding three of his closing four holes on day three with a 68 for a six-under par 210 total.

And like Wilson, the Scot has the goal also of winning just for a second time in now five years.
