Harrington & Stricker – Ryder Cup Rivals Opening Salvo In New Orleans

The opening salvo of the 2020 Ryder Cup between rival captains Padraig Harrington and Steve Stricker will take place next month at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Harrington will partner fellow Irishman Shane Lowry while Stricker will have fellow Wisconsin-born Jerry Kelly for his partner in the event to be again staged on the alligator-infested TPC Louisiana course from April 25th to 28th.

“Having both 2020 Ryder Cup captains playing our tournament indicates the importance they see in midseason team play,” said tournament official Steve Worthy said in a news release.

Harrington, who tied for fourth in the Zurich Classic in 2008 and tied for eighth in 2005, served as vice-captain of the European Ryder Cup teams in 2014, 2016 and 2018 before being named captain for next year’s competition at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin.

Stricker also is a three-time Ryder Cup vice-captain and in 2017 led the USA Presidents Cup side to victory in New Jersey.
