Woods Happy It’s Over, Glad Managed 72-Holes & Heading To Mexico City Tuesday.

Pacific Palisades, California ….

Tiger Woods, and clutching a hot cup of coffee, spoke of his clear delight in having played 72 holes in three days and thanking officials in managing to play all four rounds of the Genesis Open before confirming he will travel on Tuesday for this coming week’s WGC – Mexico Championship.

Woods ended his round with a closing one-over par 72 for a six-under tally and then clubhouse share of 16th place under bright but extremely cold and windy conditions late in the day at the Riviera Country Club.

It was a marathon three days for the 43-year old who, having not teed-up on Thursday due to a 7-hour rain delay, then played 30 holes on Friday, 14 holes on Saturday and 28 holes Sunday.

“I got tired; there’s no doubt,” Woods said. “It was just a long week, and eventually I made a few bad swings. But to be honest with you, it was one of the worst weeks I’ve ever had on the greens. Six 3-putts is — I don’t think I’ve ever done that. And to have that many 3-putts and still shoot 6 under par — take away those 3-putts, I’m 12 under par. And if I make a few more putts, I’m right in the mix.

“So I just have to clean up my mess on the greens and be ready for Thursday.”

“I got tired. I don’t know if I’m the only one, but I definitely felt it today. Wind, cold.

“I was at 10 and I slipped four shots coming in. That’s the way it goes.”

Woods was asked how would he compare his efforts this week in suburban L A with his efforts a fortnight ago in his event of the year at the Farmers Insurance Open.

“Well, I felt I drove the ball much better here this week than in San Diego,” he said.

“Though in saying that, my iron game was probably better at Torrey and my putting was actually better there (smiling).  I made a few good putts here in spurts this week but just didn’t have the pace right as I was struggling with my lines.  I finally got it together a little bit but still, I made too many mistakes on the greens.”
