Woods Jokes He Could Tackle Mickelson Left-Handed As Banter Builds Ahead ‘The Match’.

Panamus, New Jersey ...

Tiger Woods suggested he could tackle Phil Mickelson also in playing left-handed in their planned $US9m ‘winner-takes-all’ showdown later this year in Las Vegas.

Woods and Mickelson confirmed the staging of ‘The Match’ to be held in the evening of Thanksgiving Day (November 23rd) at the Shadow Creek club.

There’s already been plenty of social media banter between the multi-Major winning duo and that also down to a blunder on the promotional graphic that shows Woods with a left-handed driver in his hands.

Note – Tiger Woods has a left-handed drive in his hand.

“That was a mistake in the advertising,” said Woods smiling.

“I can hit tee shots left-handed. That’s not a problem. But I would have a hard time getting the ball in the air left-handed with any other club.”

Of course, Woods is no stranger to head-on, one-to-one competition including not only the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup but also tackling Rory McIlroy twice in China.

And after posting a level par 71 on the opening day of the Northern Trust, and Woods first appearance in a FedEx Cup ‘Play-Off’ event in five years, the current World No. 26 spoke of his delight now that arrangements are in place for ‘The Match’.

“We’re able to showcase golf at a different time and different platforms and I think this will be fun,” said Woods.

“It’s 18-holes, so anybody can win an 18-hole boat race.  We’re going to have fun doing something that’s never been done before.”

And Woods also defended arrangements for ‘The Match’ to be screened only on ‘pay-for’TV’.

“It will pay per view (and with the price has not yet been announced) has rankled some,” he said smiling.

“How many times have we all purchased fights, whether it’s MMA or it’s boxing, whatever it may be. We all purchase those fights.

“As I said, it will be different. It’s fun to do something different in our sport and something that’s never been done before.”
