Rahm Reckons Beating Garcia In Austin Can Lead To Majors Success For Rookie Spaniard.

Wilmington, NC …

Newest European Tour sensation Jon Rahm says after taking down Sergio Garcia two weeks before his Masters success it is enough inspiration to join Garcia as a Major Champion.

The US-based Rahm joined the Tour on the eve of the WGC – Mexico Championship and just days before finishing third in Mexico City.

Three weeks later Rahm bravely fought back from being 5 down after just eight holes in the WGC – Dell Match–Play Championship only to lose 1 down to World No. 1 Dustin Johnson in the final at Austin, Texas.

On route to the final Rahm easily bundled Garcia out of the event 6 & 4 in the third of three round robin encounters.

Jon Rahm humbles Sergio Garcia 6 & 4 in Austin and two weeks before Garcia wins the Masters.

The effort along with a top–3o finish behind Garcia on debut at Augusta has Hahn now lying third of the European Tour Race to Dubai and in only three counting events.

And with Garcia set to return to competition at next week’s Players Championship, Rahm is clearly excited in catching–up with the Masters winning hero.

“I can’t wait to talk to Sergio next week as I was terribly excited for him winning the Masters”, said Rahm ahead of the second day of the rain–affected second round of the Wells Fargo Championship in North Carolina.

“Since I turned pro we have got to play a couple of practice rounds together so I have got to know him pretty well, I feel.

Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia in Austin but after Rahm handed Garcia a 6 & 4 drubbing.

“I do know him enough to be really thrilled for him to get the green jacket, and even if I didn’t know him as well as I do, you still had to be very pleased for him.

“We all know how he has struggled to get over the line in other Majors but to get it done, and in the manner he did at Augusta, we are all so pleased for him”.

And Rahm is still so fired-up having humbled Garcia  in Austin, and in Garcia’s last event before he won the Masters, he reckons he also stands a good chance of soon making it Spanish double dose of Majors glory.

“If I was about to beat Sergio 6 & 4 in Austin then I feel I can also beat the same guy in a Major”, said Rahm.

“It is inspirational how he fought back over that back nine and win in a true champion style with a birdie at the play-off hole.

“Also, the fact is that Spain has not seen a Major Champion since 1999 when Jose Maria won so it is going to be great for Spanish golf in general”.
