Muirfield On Threshold Of Historic Vote To Allow Women Members.

The Honourable Society of Edinburgh Golfers or Muirfield Golf Club is on the threshold of an historic vote and allowing women members.

The result of a recent vote among members to allow women full members announced tomorrow (Thursday) around 11am UK time.

It is understood Muirfield members will be informed on the outcome of the voting process this evening, and this is following a two-year consultation process.

And the vote can only be passed if there is a two-thirds majority of the 750 members balloted.

Muirfield, that last played host to The Open in 2013, and Royal Troon remain the only two Open Championship host venues still to exclude women.

More recently, the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews ended a 260-year ban in 2014 and voted to allow women members while a year ago Royal St. Georges to also follow suit.
