Crail Golf’s Battle Trophy – McIntosh Looking To Make It Two Wins In Succession.

Crail, Scotland … Bruntsfield’s Eric McIntosh will be looking to make it two leading Scottish amateur tournament victories in succession ahead of teeing up in this weekend’s prestigious Battle Trophy at Crail Golfing Society.

The 17-year old will step onto the acclaimed Gil Hanse designed Craighead Links course after claiming the biggest win of his career in capturing last week’s Scottish Boys Amateur title at Murcar Links.

However, McIntosh will be facing tough opposition in the form of GB & I Walker Cup star Grant Forrest and Drumoig’s Connor Syme who went so close to victory a year ago.

In fact, Syme posted an eight under par 64 and just one of the Craighead Links course record.

And Syme returns to Australia having captured the very prestigious Ausrtalian Amateur title.

As well, Glenbervie’s Graeme Robertson is seeking to follow up last week’s victory in the Craigmillar Park Open.

Scotland caps Jamie Savage, Liam Johnston and Calum Fyfe, as well as South African Amateur winner Craig Ross, feature.

Leading Scottish Boys contenders Sandy Scott and Rory Franssen are also in the field.

The Battle Trophy was first played at Crail in 1998 but since 2001 has been an SGU counting event.

And this weekend’s 36-hole event will be the first of three tournaments this year being played on a Gill Hanse designed course.

Hanse also designed the Castle Stuart course near Inverness that will again host the Aberdeen Assert Management Scottish Open starting on July 10 while it was Hanse who designed the Rio de Janeiro course that will host the Olympic Games golf tournament teeing up on 11th August.
