Bubba Watson Not Concerned Whether Augusta National ‘Bubba-Proof’ 13th Hole.

First it was Augusta National ‘Tiger-Proofing’ the famed Georgia golfing gem.

Now it seems as though Masters officials are considering “Bubba-Proofing’ the par five, 13th named ‘Azalea’.

As www.golfbytourmiss.com reported earlier if reports are correct the 13th hole will be extended beyond last year’s 510-yards off the championship tee.

Double Masters champion not concerned if Augusta National 'Bubba Proof' the par five, 13th hole.

Double Masters champion not concerned if Augusta National ‘Bubba Proof’ the par five, 13th hole.

The par five 13th was rated the second easiest at last year’s Masters yielding 20 eagles and 141 birdies, and played to a stroke average of 4.79.

Watson, with his enormous length off the tee, has won two Masters green jackets in 2012 and 2104, and after capturing last fortnight’s Northern Trust Open has come into strong favouritism to be fitted for a third green jacket.

However if he does, the American may not be playing the 13th using a driver and then either a PW or SW into the green for his second shot.

But then whether or not Augusta National is reacting to Watson easily peeling the petals from ‘Azalea’ doesn’t bother the 37-year old.

“I haven’t heard about that, so that’s the first I’ve heard about it,” he said in response to my question.

If they change it, they always changed stuff in the right direction and if they didn’t like it after a year, they have always changed it back or somewhat changed it back.

“But, I’m not worried about if they change it here or there.”

Watson was then asked how he would normally play the 13th.

“When I win, I always play it pretty good,” he said smiling.

“No, it’s a cut hole.  I like to cut the ball, but for a right-hander you could throw a 3-wood out there and draw it around the corner. For me I have to hit drive, because it’s cut;  the cut goes shorter.

“And if they do add length to the tee there could be more lay-ups.”
