Much has changed in Doha in 17 years.

Walking the Doha Golf Club course inside-the-ropes on the day after the 2016 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters was nothing like the vista when I first attended the tournament in 1999, and a year after the inaugural event.

There was no skyline ‘distractions’ back then and just a stunning desert design layout on the very outskirts of the city of Doha.

However in that period natural gas and oil was discovered in Qatar resulting in Doha undergoing a remarkable transformation to become one of the modern cities in the world today while the new Doha International Airport will become the benchmark for airports for many years to come.
