Shane Lowry In Frame To Hole Winning 2016 EurAsia Cup Winning Putt.

Shane Lowry has already holed the winning putt in his Foursome and Fourball matches at the 2016 EurAsia Cup and his positioning on the draw for the Sunday Singles could well see the Irishman make it three from three.

Lowry teamed with England’s Danny Sullivan for a second day running winning 3 & 2 against the Asian Team duo of Prayad Marksaeng and Shingo Katayama.

After losing the first hole to a birdie, the next seven holes were halved before Europe won the 10th with a par and finally went ahead to 2up with birdies at the next two holes.

Asia brilliantly won the 15th but Lowry then stepped up to hole a six-footer birdie at 16 for their 3 & 2 win.

“It’s great that Andy and I managed to win a second match but then from a personal viewpoint I could not be happier in holing the winning putt the past two days,” said Lowry.

“However Andy and I were down for most of the first part of the match but then I holed a nice putt on the eighth for a half and then we kind of handed them the ninth.

“Then we went 5 under for the next seven holes to win 3 & 2 so that’s golf.

“So from a personal point view it was nice to get another point the team as I have played nicely again today.”

Europe now only need to secure 3 ½ points from the 12 on offer in the Singles to secure victory in the Malaysian capital.

And with Lowry out in the fifth match on the final day the reigning WGC – Bridgestone Invitational champion could easily be the player to seal victory.

If so, it would continue a remarkable record of Irish golfer’s holing winning putts in major team competition including the recently departed Christy O’Connor who holed the victory putt in the 1989 Ryder Cup that gave Europe the half and victory.

“Everyone in the European Team wants to go out there and win a point tomorrow, as we want to win by as many points as we can,” he said.

“We only need 3 ½ points to win and while would be an added bonus to hole the winning putt, it’s all about trying to win as strong as we can.”
