Danny Willett Secures Victory For Europe In EurAsia Cup.

The European Team have claimed victory in the EurAsia Cup in Kuala Lumpur.

With still eight matches to be decided England’s Danny Willett grabbed the winning point to take Europe to an unassailable 13 – 3 lead in continuing heatwave conditions on the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club course.

Willett, with European Team captain Darren Clarke looking on, birdied the 17th hole to claim a 3 & 1 success over Korean Byeong Hun An.

“It is great to be a winning captain though there is still a lot of matches to be played,” said Clarke.

“All the golf I’ve watched my team has played brilliantly again and it’s a massive credit to them as this Asian Team was a strong one and the way Europe have played this week, I have been very, very impressed.”

Europe went into the deciding Sunday Singles leading Jeev Milkha Singh’s Asian side by 9 point to 3.

It was Ian Poulter, competing as a ‘wildcard’ pick, who claimed the opening point on closing day storming his way to a 4 & 3 win over local hero Danny Chia and with Poulter grabbing six birdies.

Fellow Englishman Andy Sullivan, like Poulter, remained undefeated in his three matches claiming a similar 4 & 3 triumph over Thailand’s prolific winning Thongchai Jaidee.

Lee Westwood, also playing as a ‘wildcard’ choice, made it 12 points for Europe in handing out a 7 & 6 thumping to Malaysian Nicholas Fang.

Moments later a fourth Englishman in Willett claimed the point to deliver Europe victory.
