Rory McIlroy’s Louisville Addressed Mystery Package Solved.

Here’s a great story and it goes to the heart of what is good about the game of golf and true champions like Rory McIlroy.

McIlroy’s kindness centers around the mystery of a parcel sent from Dublin, Ireland to Louisville, Kentucky.

The parcel was postmarked 8th December, 2014 but when it was opened in Kentucky the first reaction was who had sent a box of items containing signed PGA Championship and Open Championship flags, caps and other golf related items?

In fact, it was McIlroy as winner of the back-to-back 2014 Open Championship and PGA Championship who had signed reminders of his Royal Liverpool and Valhalla victories, and arranged for someone in his office to ship the box of ‘goodies’ to Kentucky.

The parcel was addressed to the offices of WHAS – Crusade for Children and an organisation set up in 1954 to help children with special needs and to date has raised some $61m,

WHAS 11 is the local ABC TV station in Louisville.

Now the items signed by McIlroy will be put up for auction and the funds raised to help WHAS Crusade for Children.

The idea of getting McIlroy to autograph the items was WHAS 11 TV Editor, Joe Federle who first visited the Valhalla Golf Club Pro Shop and purchased a selection of items.

However he did count on extra signed items such as the Royal Liverpool signed flags.

WHAS - Crusade for Children surprised by Rory McIlroy's support.

WHAS – Crusade for Children clearly delighted by Rory McIlroy’s support.

He then contacted McIlroy’s agent to see if Rory would sign a few promotional items.

And to the delight of WHAS – Crusade for Children McIlroy signed everything in the box that also included balls, shirts and even the front page of the local Louisville Courier Journal!

* Thanks to WHAS 11 TV for this story and well done to Rory McIlroy and his team.
