Henson Stenson Praises New AGW President Appointment.

Current World No. 2 Henrik Stenson has praised the appointment of fellow Swede Goran Zachrisson as the new President of the Association of Golf Writers.

Goran, who joined the Association in 1987, has become the first non-Brit to be appointed President of the AGW, and also just the second non-Brit in the now 77-year history of the Association to hold an executive position. (The first being your editor and now AGW Secretary).

Henrik is a long-time friend of Goran and he spoke of his delight in learning of Goran’s appointment ahead of this week’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

“I was really pleased for Goran on his new appointment as he is not only a great individual, and someone who I have know for many years, but such a professional in all his undertakings,” said Henrik.

“So naturally, I am delighted for him.  Goran not only has a great knowledge of the game of golf but so many other things and that is what has made him such a popular and iconic figure in the world of golf back home in Sweden.

“That knowledge really comes to the fore when he’s on a broadcast as he just knows so much not only about the players but seemingly every aspect of the sport.

“I have known Goran since I first came out on Tour in 2000 and that’s going on for 15 years, and in that time we have become very good friends.

“So I am delighted for him as it a wonderful appointment and I am sure the Association with be in good hands under his leadership”.
