Open Champion Legends Peter Thomson & Kel Nagle Get Together.

Between them they captured six Open Championships.

Peter Thomson is one of the immortals of golf having won five Open Championships including three in succession from 1954 to 1956.

Fellow Australian Kel Nagle, and golf’s oldest living Major Champion, won the 1960 Centenary Open at St. Andrews and denying Arnold Palmer who had captured the Masters and US Open that same year, and who would win the 1961 and 1962 Open.

On December 21st Kel will turn 94 years of age.

Joining the Australian golfing icons for a luncheon during this week’s Australian Open was Dave Mercer, the former long-time ex-Head Professional at Killara Golf Club in northern Sydney.

Dave is the father of Richard Mercer and the affable pro attached to the Vintage Country Club in the Hunter Valley just outside of Sydney.

And delighted to be sharing the occasion with three of the greats of Australian golf, and sending us this wonderful photograph, was Peter Hines, now retired former leading tournament official with the PGA of Australia.
