McIlroy Humbles Fowler Again This Season Winning Singles 5 & 4.

World No. 1 Rory McIlroy has humbled American Rickie Fowler for a fourth time this season winning 5 & 4 over his American rival.

McIlroy delivered his European Team the first point of the Sunday Singles with Europe moving ahead 11 points to 6.

Fowler will be sick of the sight of McIlroy in partnering McIlroy on the final day of the Open Championship where McIlroy captured a third Major and a fortnight before the American witnessed close hand McIlroy capture a maiden WGC title with his victory in the Bridgestone Invitational.

And then seven days later McIlroy memorized both Fowler and Mickelson in joining the American pair for the walk up the final hole of the PGA Championship where McIlroy claimed a second Wanamaker Trophy and a fourth Major,

The four-time Major winning McIlroy was never behind in his match racing to 5up after just six holes that included starting his round – birdie, eagle, birdie, par, birdie and birdie.

It was not to the seventh hole Fowler won his first hole when he birdied and McIlroy dropped a shot.  However McIlroy soon had the foot back on the accelerator and while both birdied the ninth and 12th holes McIlroy was back to 5up at the 13th before claiming the match with a par on 15.

“Obviously very satisfying. I knew Paul wanted to play me up the order. I was very comfortable with that. I knew what was expected of me and I knew what I expected of myself,” said McIlroy.

“I was probably more up for this day than I was the first two.  I was just so up for it, there was no option other than to win. I played my best golf of the week. I mean, I started so well, 6-under through six holes. That built a comfortable lead that I was able to hang on to.

“So it’s been great.  All week has just been a  pleasure to play in front of unbelievable crowds and fans. We don’t get to experience it too often. It’s one every four years, a home Ryder Cup for us.

“It’s been an amazing experience. I’m just going to go now and cheer on the rest of the boys and hopefully we can bring this thing home.”
