Graeme McDowell Celebrating Best Bridgestone Invitational Result.

Graeme McDowell was celebrating posting back-to-back 66s to share eighth place and secure his best-ever Bridgestone result and also a fifth top-10 in succession since the Irish Open.

McDowell capped his round holing a 44-yard wedge shot for eagle at the par five second.

“I’m very happy with that effort and it’s good to take some good mojo onto Valhalla,” he said.

“Since the Irish open the game has been in good shape, and I would even go back to the US Open and say a 28ththere with a lacklustre weekend amounts to a soild finish under the circumstances.

“It has been solid since, we talked a lot during the week, about the way I paced myself this season. I tried to leave something in the tank for the summer.

“But then I was starting to doubt my decisions around the Irish and French Open but my commitment to my schedule has rewarded me the last couple of months and I am very happy with the way I have stuck to my guns this year and the way it is paying off.”

McDowell has been competing on the Firestone Country Club course since making his debut in 2002 and with best finish before this year in the limited field event being a share of 24th place in 2012.

However McDowell has continued his good form in the past few months by securing a top-10 result.

And in an update to this story McDowell is now eighth overall on the European Ryder Cup points table having broken into the top-nine automatic qualifiers on the back of his efforts in Akron.
