Paul Casey stormed into the clubhouse lead right on noon with a sizzling nine under par 63 on day three of the BMW International Open near Cologne.
The England golfer muscled his way from a share of 53rd place and right on the cut line at four under par and into a one shot lead at 13-under par on the rain-softened Gut Larcenhof course.
It is Casey’s second lowest European Tour round and with his lowest being a then course record 62 in the 2002 Linde German Masters on the same Jack Nicklaus designed course, and an effort that earned Casey a framed set of each of the new Euro bank notes.
And Casey, who as 2013 Irish Open winner played alongside the new Irish Open champion Mikko Ilonen, ended his round an hour and 15 minutes before the last two-ball of joint leaders Rafa Cabrera-Bello and England’s Danny Willett had teed off.
