The Bugs Were A Hit, So Too Was Mrs. Scott’s Pavlova

The ‘bug’s were a smash hit while Mrs.Scott got the thumbs up from some three dozen former Masters Champions for her Pavlova.

Defending Masters champ Adam Scott served-up a very ‘Down Under’ theme menu that included Artichoke and Arugula salad with grilled calamari for entrée.

Main course came under the banner – Australian Wagyu New York Strip and consisted of Moreton Bay Bugs (lobster), Sauteed Spinach, Onion Cream Mashed Potatoes and Sherry Thyme Reduction.

However the big concern was the Strawberry and Passion Fruit Pavlova.

Scott’s mum, Pam entrusted the recipe with Augusta National chefs but was not as confident as her son was in becoming only the fourth player to win back-to-back green jackets.

But according to 1998 Masters winning hero, Mark O’Meara Mrs. Scott’s Pavlova stayed upright for the first-ever Australian-theme Former Champions dinner.

“No, the Pavlova was superb and really good,” he said.

“I’ve been to Australia so many times, so I knew what most of the food items were including the Bugs.

“Every player I saw ate from Champions’ dinner menu, and I didn’t see anybody ordering off the Augusta clubhouse menu, as far as I saw.

“So Adam served a tremendous meal – the Aussies always know how to do it right.

“He gave a nice speech and was very humble and very appreciative and almost over the top by taking the whole thing in as he waited for that moment to be able to be at the champions’ table, and you could tell it weighed on him a little, but he’s a class act.

“I know the club, all of us Masters champs, are very excited that Adam is now a member and he carried himself as our Masters champ and I think there will be more championships lined up for him eventually.

“Adam talked about dreaming about that moment as a child and then being able to now sit in that room with the past Masters champions and Chairman Payne, you could tell it was almost a little overwhelming, as it is for any new champion.

“Even for me, to still be in that room with those gentlemen is awe inspiring. Makes your heart skip a beat – it’s totally cool.”
