Matt Kuchar Looks To Make Hilton Head Four-Times Lucky.

American Matt Kuchar is looking to finally make if four times lucky after posting a five under par 66 on the opening day of the RBC Heritage Classic at Hilton Head.

Kuchar warmed to the bright but very cold conditions in his best-ever round on the tight tree-lined Harbor Town Golf Links course.

The current World No. 6 arrived in South Carolina having been in contention for victory in the past three events only.

First in the Valero Texas Open and then in the following week’s Shell Houston Open, Kuchar saw victory snatched from his grasp and on each occasion by Australian-born players in Steven Bowditch and Matt Jones who claimed their first PGA Tour victory and a first-ever tee time in the Masters.

Then in last week’s Masters, Kuchar’s goal of a first Major Championship evaporated in a final round 76 that left him in a share of fifth place behind now double Augusta winning Bubba Watson.

And Kuchar’s efforts in recent week’s to capture a seventh PGA Tour victory was among the questions raised when  he visited the RBC Heritage Classic media center when asked to pin point what he needs to do to finish in front.

“The final days I played some decent golf like Houston where I thought I played nice,” he said.

“I shot even par in some tough conditions.  San Antonio really tough conditions.  Augusta National on Sunday, played some good golf.  I bogeyed 17 and 18, which was a bit of a letdown to shoot 2‑over, but not at all disappointed with the performance.

“I’d like to shoot some better numbers, but I certainly am not going to try to change anything as to how I approach it Sunday.  I feel like it’s just a matter of getting more and more comfortable and playing some better golf.  I feel like my game’s ready.

“I’ve played some great golf on Sunday in some big events.  I don’t see any issue there.  Just play some okay golf and I’d just like a few more chances at it.”
