Ben Crenshaw To Make 2015 His Final Masters.

Double Major winning Ben Crenshaw will play his last Masters in 2015 and the occasion of the 20th anniversary of his second Masters success.

Crenshaw, who captured the 1984 and 1995 Masters, indicated he spoke with his long-time caddy, Carl during the course of this week’s Major of his decision.

“I said to Carl I have been thinking about this for some time and I think next year would be a good year,” said Crenshaw.

“I have thought about this decision for a very long time and I am happy with this.  I have thought very hard about this and I thought also I could have stepped down earlier and it’s very hard, very hard.

“But hey, I have been so fortunate and I have to look at the good things that have happened so I am going to have a little hurt with this decision.

“However I am very resigned to being an encourager for everybody as much as I can.”

Crenshaw, now aged 62,  made his Masters debut in 1972 and finished second to Raymond Floyd in 1976 albeit by eight shots.

He had top-10s in 1980 and 1981 and atter sharing second place in 1983 the Texan burst through in 1984.  Crenshaw remained competitive at Augusta enjoying four top-4s between 1988 and 1991 ahead of very emotional success in 1995 that he dedicated to the late mentor Harvey Pennick.

The sight of Crenshaw bending over crying into his hands, and with his long-time caddy providing a comforting arm around his shoulder, remains one of the most iconic photographs in Masters history.
