Rory McIlroy Letter Gives Lift To European Sir Michael Bonallack Trophy Team.

Double Major winning Rory McIlroy has taken time out to wish the European Team well in its quest to defeat an Asia Pacific side in this week’s Sir Michael Bonallack Trophy taking place in India.

McIlroy tweeted the 12-member Europeans saying:  “As part of that winning team, I felt such a tremendous sense of pride and a belief that I had the game to compete at the highest amateur level – and perhaps beyond,” wrote the Northern Irishman.

“Your selection for the European team already says so much: your game is in great shape and you are among the finest golfers Europe has to offer.”

McIlroy had been a member of the same side eight years ago when the prestigious event was held in New Zealand where the Europeans won eight of the 12 final Singles matches.

One of those thrilled to receive the message was Scotland’s James Ross who responded to McIlroy saying:  “Thanks for your note to the Team Europe boys this week. It’s a great inspiration to all of us!”

And McIlroy is not the only Major Champion to have competed in the Sir Michael Bonallack Trophy as fellow US Open winner Justin Rose also once represented Europe.
