Adam Scott’s Royal Sydney Hoodoo Bites Back At Bay Hill – Second Loss In Six Events.

Aussie Adam Scott now heads to his Masters defence having let slip a wire to wire victory for a second occasion in his past six events.

In both December’s Australian Open in Sydney and now in the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando Scott began with a blistering first day 62 to lead for three days only to lose out on the final day.

Scott went into the Bay Hill last day’s play leading by three strokes , and despite still struggling with flu-like symptoms, he lost out by two shots to little-known American Matt Every.

A tearful Every captured a maiden PGA Tour title despite bogeying two of his closing three holes in a score of 70 to finish at 13-under par and one ahead of fellow American and 2011 PGA champion Keegan Bradley (72).

Scott signed for a horror 76 with just one birdie but also five bogeys, and 14 shots more than his starting round of 62 on Thursday.

Last December Rory McIlroy ended a 12 month winless drought when he denied Scott with a birdie at the last at Royal Sydney.

Every, who grew up close to Bay Hill, was met by tournament host Arnold Palmer and heads to a first Masters where will celebrate his 31st birthday on day three of the season’s first Major.
“It’s really cool to win on a golf course so close to my home and I kept telling myself maybe it will be somewhere special where I win my first PGA Tour event, so I don’t think there could be a more special place,” he said.
Sweden’s Henrik Stenson (68) and Italy’s Francesco Molinari (73) finished the best of the Europeans sharing fifth place on nine under par.

While Ian Poulter was soon back behind the wheel of his charcoal coloured Ferrari matching Scott’s 76 in a round that included an ‘8’ at the par four 11th hole to share 20th spot at four under.
