The quietly-spoken Frenchman has stormed to the top of the European Team points table despite losing at the fifth extra hole to Australia’s Jason Day in Sunday’s final at Dove Mountain near Tuscon, Arizona.

Present to witness first-hand Dubuisson’s impressive performance was European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley, who was commentating on the action for SKY Sports TV.

Included in Dubuisson’s superb showing was two saves from cacti during the extra holes that would have done the late, great Seve Ballesteros proud. (See video below)

Dubuisson had the consolation of a £545,000 cheque for second place which, coupled with his earnings for winning his maiden European Tour title in the Turkish Airlines Open last season, should ensure he is set for a Ryder Cup debut at Gleneagles in September.

“It looks like with the points he has accumulated he is a nail-on now and if was 90 per cent before the week he is 99.9 per cent now,” said McGinley,

“With all the evidence we have seen this week I think he will be a very welcome addition to the team.

“You can’t help but be very impressed. A lot of us were all learning about Victor and the fortitude he has shown under pressure all week has been most impressive.”

And Dubuisson, who is a former No. 1-ranked amateur, conceded Sunday that the Ryder Cup has been his No. 1 target.

“I’m very excited and this was very good preparation for me because now I know what I need to work on,” he said.

And even USA team skipper Tom Watson has been impressed tweeting:  “Two of the greatest up-and-downs I have ever seen Victor!!!”

Here with thanks to www.pgatour.com is one of Dubuisson’s  remarkable ‘saves’ from bushes and rocks during the extra holes in Sunday’s Accenture final.
