Bubba Watson Ends Two-Year Winless Drought With Northern Trust Success.

Bubba Watson ended a near two-year winless drought with victory in the Northern Trust Open in suburban Los Angeles.

Watson’s last victory was his 2012 Masters success and the big-hitting Bagdad-born golfer sealed a fifth Tour win with a final round of a seven under par 64 for a 15-under par tally.

Watson won by two shots from fellow big-hitting Dustin Johnson (66).

Watson set up victory with a brilliant third day 64 and then headed into the last day with five birdies in the first eight holes.

And after commencing the event on Thursday with double bogeys at one and three Watson played the weekend without recording a bogey and the first player to achieve such a feat since records were first held in 1983.

In between being fitted with an Augusta National green jacket and prior to winning at Riviera Watson having posted eight top-10s including a second place finish in his last event – the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

“It’s very nice to win again because when I won the Masters, it was just me,” he said.

“Family members were there but not my wife and not my son who was just adopted at that point, now two weeks away from being two years old, what a thrill.  We’ll have some pictures with him and my wife and with the trophy, so it’s nice.

“The reaction of, I know y’all are going to ask, my first win since the Masters, it’s just‑‑ you never know when your last win is going to be.  My last win could have been the Masters, which would have been a great way to go out.

“But winning here at Northern Trust is nice, any time you can get another win, it’s very nice and so you know, I never looked down, I never felt down that I haven’t won yet but just keep plugging along and somehow it fell in my lap today.”

Victory has seen Watson jump 12 places to 14th in the World Rankings.
