Olesen Pays Heavy Price For Clumsy Putting Error

Denmark’s ultra-talented Thorbjorn Olesen paid a heavy price for a silly mistake mid round on day two of the Turkish Airlines Open.

The 24-year old Dane had posted a first round 66 to be sharing fifth place when he headed into his second round.

Olesen then moved closer to the lead with three birdies and a bogey over his outward half before trouble struck at the par four 11th hole.

“I was just about to tap in my putt but when I put my foot down I hit the front of my shoe with the putter and hit the ball,” he said.

“I’ve never, ever done that before and I don’t want to do it ever again.

“My intentions were not to hit the ball or not to even make a stroke but then I wasn’t sure what to do so that’s why I called over the referee.”

Olesen was hit with a one stroke penalty but then he was seemingly so upset over the incident he then doubled the next on route to a 72 to drop back to a share of 25th place at six under par.
