A Sight To Bring Tears To Your Eyes – 45 Minute Wait For Hot Pies & Sausage Rolls.

It is a sight to bring tears to the eyes of Australasian Tour journalists and photographers – the sign on mini oven indicating a wait of 45 minutes before the pies and sausage rolls are ready.

The mini pies and sausage rolls are a feature in most press rooms at Australian golf events.

It’s not uncommon for most to consume upwards of a dozen and covered with lashings of tomato sauce.

American Matt Kuchar admitted this week that his record is 10.

There was also the occasion many years ago when Greg Norman came into the Press Room and was handed a plate of some three to four meat pies but when he opened the tomato sauce sachet it squirted all over the front of his own label shirt.

Norman quickly pointed a finger at South Australian based journalist Geoff Roach demanding:   “Hey Roachie?   Quick, swap me your shirt.”.

So before the TV cameras started rolling he was the sight of the double Open Championship winning Norman swapping shirts and with Roachie returning to his seat now wearing a tomato sauce-splattered Greg Norman designed shirt and Norman sitting in front of the cameras with  a well-worn ‘freebie’.

It will be 45 minutes before the pies and sausage rolls will be ready for consumption.

You can't eat a meat pie or sausage roll without tomato sauce.
